Steganotaenia araliacea | Carrot-tree for sale | Geelwortelboom
The Carrot tree is slightly frost sensitive and somewhat drought tolerant. It is a small, fast growing, erect, deciduous tree with bright green, once-compound leaves and a greenish corky trunk. Its leaves' margin is toothed, and each tooth ends with fine hair-like point -characteristic of this specie and very unique. Steganotaenia araliacea bears many small flowers on several large umbels - a beautiful and striking sight. Carrot tree is an undiscovered jewel for the connoisseur.
Value to honeybees: Nectar, N1; Pollen, P2; Flowering months 7-11, (8-9). (See blog-post "The bee-value of South Africa's trees" for an explanation of codes)
