Pterocarpus rotundifolius | Round-leaved bloodwood trees for sale
Round-leaved bloodwood is a medium-large tree with large, dark-green, once divided (once pinnate) leaves. Leaflets are almost round, hence the popular name "Round-leaved". The tree bears bright yellow flowers in profusion and when in flower, attracts a wide variety of insects. In our experience the root system of Pterocarpus rotundifolius is only mildly aggressive. Round-leaved bloodwood is somewhat frost sensitive, semi-deciduous and drought tolerant. Unfortunately it does not do well in a container.
Value to honeybees: Nectar, N1-3; Pollen, P0-2; Flowering months 9-3, (11-1). (See blog-post "The bee-value of South Africa's trees" for an explanation of codes)
