Koko-tree is a small to medium, evergreen tree with a medium growth rate and a neat, compact growth form. The species' leaves are very variable in form and appearance. Young leaves have a reddish color. Maytenus undata is quite frost tolerant, up to -4 degrees Celsius. It requires modest amounts of water. Koko-tree's flowers are inconspicuous, its roots are non-invasive, and the tree is not messy.  It is an undiscovered jewel.

A few gardening ideas:

Maytenus undata is an excellent choice for a small garden. Although Koko-tree has a wide distribution in Africa, it is not well known in the landscaping environment and nursery trade. The species is sure to attract the attention of visitors to your garden. It responds well to pruning and will do we well in a large pot. Use it as a focal point, or to provide year-round shade.

Value to honeybees: Unknown
