Broad-leaved coral-tree is a medium sized, slow-growing, deciduous tree with exceptionally large tri-foliate leaves and a thickset corky trunk. It bears large, striking, crimson-red flowers. Latissima is truly a unique member of the Erythrina Genus. Like all Erytrina species, it is quite drought tolerant but unfortunately frost sensitive. Broad-leaved coral-tree has a rather aggressive root system.

Erytrina latissima is a candidate for larger gardens. Plant it at least 6 meters from any paving. It is a deserving summer shade tree. It is interesting that Broad-leaved coral-tree grows well in a large pot. Use this method if you have a small or even very small garden. The species is prone to attack by a bore worm. This pest is easily detected but difficult to control. Erythrina latissima is an undiscovered jewel and will give great pleasure to the garden enthusiast.
