Transvaal cabbage tree (also Grey cabbage tree) is the most beautiful of all cabbage tree species. Cussonia transvaalensis is evergreen, slightly frost sensitive and very drought resistant. It has blue-grey leaves which are deeply divided into 2-4 nodes. Up to 6 leaflets may extend from one node, making the tree truly unique. Transvaal cabbage tree is endemic to the Waterberg and is exceptionally scarce. Cussonia transvaalensis is one of the smaller cabbage tree species, but like all other cussonia species, it has an aggressive root system. The tree does well in a container. Ensure that the planting mix is well drained to prevent root rotting. It is a tree for the connoisseur.
