Brown ivory is a semi-deciduous tree, growing mostly in the northern parts of South Africa. It is frost sensitive and only marginally drought tolerant. Berchemia discolor is fast growing and provides dense shade. It is a good choice for larger gardens. Brown ivory’s root system is not aggressive. Notwithstanding we do not recommend container planting.
