Vepris lanceolata | White-ironwood for sale | Witysterhout
White-ironwood can only withstand light frost. It is medium drought tolerant and evergreen, with a medium growth rate. At first glance Vepris lanceolata looks much like the Karee tree. The leaf canopy of White-ironwood is light green and remains so throughout the year. (In contrast with the Karee where the leaf canopy is less attractive just before it renews in November/December) Vepris lanceolata has a medium aggressive root system. The tree does well in a container and responds to pruning. Consider this planting alternative if you have a very small garden.
Value to honeybees: Nectar, N2?; Pollen, P1?; Flowering months 11-2. (See blog-post "The bee-value of South Africa's trees" for an explanation of codes)
