Red-leaved fig is a fast growing, medium-small, semi-deciduous tree with large, dark-green leaves. Young leaves have an initial red tint, giving it a striking appearance. Ficus ingens is known for its variation in growth form. Some specimens have a low, spreading growth tendency, while others grow upright, akin to a typical tree appearance, In both cases the tree develops striking gnarled roots. Hence the tree has excellent potential as a pot specimen. It is also a popular bonsai. Plant red-leaved fig in a large garden to create a tropical look wile also attracting fruit eating birds.
